Our First IRL MeetingWhen I told Mel that I had arranged for her to come see me, she didn't believe it...said she would believe it when the ticket arrived at her house. Well, in July '99, I sent her a plane ticket to come visit me for 12 days. The US Postal Service lost my registered letter and it took over 30 days for it to finally arrive. With only 3 days left until her plane was supposed to leave, the ticket finally arrived. Talk about STRESS!!!! She thinking that I was messing with her, and that there wasn't really a ticket; I trying to convince her that I really did send it. The day finally arrived that she boarded the plane and came to Minneapolis. When she got off the plane, she wouldn't look at me. That is because I told her that all I would have to do was look her in |
the eyes and I would know.
She ran up to me and buried her head in my chest. She is 5' 1" and I am 5' 9". Her body pressed against mine seemed to fit better than your most comfortable pants.
As we were walking out of the airport, our hands found each other, without either of us consciously trying to hold hands. It was as if they were meant to seek out and clasp one another. The next 12 days went by so fast. It was as if we had
known each other all our lives.
The morning she boarded the plane to leave, I saw the tears in her eyes as I hugged her goodbye. I stood at the end of the boarding ramp waiting for her to turn around and come back to me. The tears were rolling down my cheeks as I saw the plane pull away from the dock. That was the hardest thing I had ever done up till then . . . letting her leave. |
